Awards & Prizes The Nauvoo Grape Festival Association and the BBQ Competition Planning Committee would like to thank of all those people who offered their support of this event and we look forward to planning our third annual event, which will be held on May 26, 2012. Results of the 2010 Great River Grillin’ BBQ Contest The aromas in the air in Historic Nauvoo, Illinois Saturday, May 29th were full of smoke and fire and an array of spices and flavors sure to guide your nose from far, far away. The inaugural Great River Grillin’ BBQ Contest was held at the Nauvoo City Park on May 29, 2010. Sponsored in part by the Nauvoo Grape Festival Association, the Grillin Committee are pleased to announce the overall winner of the 1st Annual Great River Grillin BBQ Contest went to The Big Kahuna Grilling Team from Mt. Pleasant, Iowa who entered the highest scoring entry overall, which was their pork entry. The Big Kahuna was awarded $150 and FREE entry into Smoke on the River BBQ Contest in Quincy, Illinois in September 2010. Cash awards were also given for 1st and 2nd place in each of the following categories: chicken, pork, beef and open. The award for 1st place was $125 and a trophy and the award for 2nd place was $75. The 1st place teams were: Chicken – The Grills Angels Pork – The Big Kahuna Grilling Team Beef – The Bloomin’ Grillers Open – The Grills Angels The 2nd place teams were: Chicken – Grandpa John’s Grilling Team Pork – Grandpa John’s Grilling Team Beef – The Grills Angels Open – Old 99 BBQ Team
Awards & Prizes will be announced at the conclusion of all of the judging at approximately 4 pm.
Awards and prizes will be given out for 1st and 2nd place in each category along with the Overall Point Winner, People's Choice Award and Best Theme Award. Judging and points will be awarded for 1st and 2nd place with the Overall Point Winner based on the judges' point system. The Open category is not included in the points system. The People's Choice and Best Theme awards are based on votes received in all categories from the general public. The general public is allotted 5 votes per person entering the contest grounds.
The Overall Winner will be awarded complimentary entry into the Kansas City Sanctioned Smoke on the River BBQ Contest
to be held in Quincy, IL on September 10 & 11, 2011, $150 cash and a trophy.
Total award value is $325.
The first place prize in each of the categories will be $125 and the second place prize in each of the categories will be $75.
Prizes for the People's Choice Awards in each category and the Best Theme Award are community baskets to be displayed the day of the competition.
